Discover the beauty of Bulgaria! Ascent of mount Musala on March 3

A weekday off - and a national holiday at that -what better moment to climb the roof of the Balkans, Mount Musala!
Its exact elevation was measured in 1932 and stands at 2,925.4 m.
Although relatively easy to ascend in summer, in winter this mountain becomes a true challenge - one that experienced guides will lead you through with confidence.

Program:

Meeting of the group in Borovets, at the lower station of the Yastrebets gondola lift, at 08:00. Introduction, distribution of the necessary equipment, and purchase of lift tickets.

You start the hike from the upper lift station at 2,350 m above sea level. You head toward the valley of the Bistritsa River, following it to the first stop along the route—Musala Hut. This is the highest-altitude hut in Bulgaria, located at 2,389 m. The first building here was constructed back in 1924. Next comes the ascent along the classic winter route via the Ice Lake. Towering around you are the giant silhouettes of the peaks Deno, Irechek, Aleko, Lyudmil Yankov, and of course—Musala itself!

You reach the summit around noon, followed by time for rest and commemorative photos. From here, the views open up like the palm of your hand: the entire Rila Mountains, Pirin, Vitosha, the Balkan Range, and the Rhodopes—a vast and magnificent mountain paradise!

The descent back to the starting point follows the same route, once again using the Yastrebets gondola lift.

Mandatory personal equipment and requirements:

• Backpack 30–40 liters
• High winter or four-season boots
• Gaiters
• Snowshoes – depending on conditions; rental may be available
• Alpine crampons – rental may be available
• Spare socks (2–3 pairs)
• Appropriate winter mountain clothing: comfortable long trousers, quick-dry T-shirt/top, thermal base layer (top and leggings), fleece, rain jacket, windproof jacket, down jacket or synthetic insulated jacket with hood; spare dry clothes for changing
• Winter hat
• Summer hat
• Gloves – 2 pairs
• Buff or other head/neck covering
• Headlamp or flashlight
• Sunglasses
• Sunscreen
• Personal first-aid kit as needed
• Trekking poles

Important:

The hike is suitable for people in good physical condition, with endurance and experience in the mountains, including winter conditions. All hikes are conducted in compliance with the necessary safety measures and are led by a licensed mountain guide.

Group hikes on fixed dates are carried out with a minimum of 4 participants. If you purchase a dated voucher for a mixed group hike and the group does not form for that date, or if weather conditions do not allow the hike to take place, the organizers will offer an alternative date and your voucher will remain valid.
