What to expect and ideas:
The Kyustendil village of Razhdavitsa is located at the beginning of the fabulous Zemen gorge and at the foot of Risha mountain, part of Konyavska mountain. The Struma River passes through it, as well as the Sofia - Kyustendil railway line with modern diesel locomotives, whose panoramic windows allow you to enjoy the wonderful views. Nearby is the beautiful "Polska Skakavitsa" waterfall, the cave of St. John of Rila, the delightful Shegava Canyon, and they can be reached by pleasant eco-trails.
In the center of Razhdavitsa, not far from the church, there is a small ethnographic complex, in which a local cooperative recreates crafts, customs and culinary traditions from the area. In one of the houses there is a dedicated craft workshop, where you can see a demonstration of basket making, hemp rope weaving, icon painting, wheat grinding, etc. In the same old house there is also a gallery that hosts various exhibitions.
The neighboring old house with an authentic stone oven in front is a place for culinary workshops. There you will prepare a village pastry (banitsa) together with a local woman. You will mix the dough, roll out the crusts, fill them with the traditional filling and finally bake the pie in the old country oven.
You will also visit another house nearby, where there is already an authentic “bozajinica”. There, you will see the old technology used to prepare Razhdavitsa boza and taste it while enjoying pastry that you yourself prepared.
You should not leave the fertile Razhdavitsa without shopping for delicious local products. So take a look at the country food market as well. There you will find a seasonal assortment of rakia, dried or fresh fruits and vegetables, and more.
