Programme:
Day 1: Belmeken sports base – Kameniti Chal – Sivri Chal – Ravni Chal – Belmeken hut
10:00 a.m. – Meeting of the group at the Belmeken sports base near the eponymous dam. Our route begins at an impressive 1950 meters in altitude. A series of peaks awaits us, bearing in this part of Rila the archaic name “chal”, which we will talk about during the hike.
We start with the impressive hump of Kameniti Chal (2587 m), under whose steep eastern wall small snowdrifts and ponds are hidden. Barely descending from this peak, we come across the sharp Sivri Chal (2642 m), the descent from which will be facilitated by a metal rope.
After we have had our fill of views that reach all the way to Musala, all that remains is to climb the gentle and hospitable Ravni Chal (2637 m), from which our descent to the Belmeken hut, built in 1932, begins!
Day 2 Belmeken hut – Belmeken peak – Razhavitsa river – Belmeken sports base
After saying goodbye to the hut and its kind owners, we continue our tour in Eastern Rila, once mistakenly considered part of the Rhodope Mountains. We still have to climb the easternmost Rila giant, Belmeken peak (2626 m), from which a panoramic view of the reservoir of the same name opens.
We should descend by an alternative route along the southwestern ridge of the peak and along the Razhavitsa river valley to reach our starting point at the sports complex.
